A LETTER FROM FOUNDER, Jo Staats
Dear Friends;
It is with heavy heart that I am contacting you. As the result of personal obligations to my own elderly parents that have grown critically ill over the past year, I am dissolving WVPBH.
Our groups rescue efforts will cease immediately, effective January 1, 2012.
The past 6 years I, along with many volunteers, have worked tirelessly to provide a safe-haven to dogs that were never given a 1st chance at a happy, loving life.
Our efforts to build WVPBH as a reputilble and effective rescue were endless, and our commitment to ensure a sound reputation and ensure that dogs from all over West Virginia were given that first chance were unquestioned.
We never received a single complaint. That is something we take great pride in.
Unfortunately, the dogs that come into the rescue are in my care at all times. I provided all training and volunteers provided assistance with day-to-day operations.
As a result, I am unable to continue providing the time required to benefit the dogs that deserve undivided attention.
For me personally, this is an extremely difficult pill to swallow. My commitment to these dogs remains as it always has, but commitment to family takes precedence. I cannot tackle both tasks and be effective to either.
I am not stepping away from the matter entirely, but am re-organizing WVPBH so that we obtain our 501c4 status for lobbying efforts and will remain focused on legislative matters as well as local ordinances, public education programs and specialized training programs for law enforcement.
WVPBH will no longer exist as a rescue, but our reorganization, when completed, will work to provide all dog-owners and dogs alike the ensured safety of legal protection statewide.
We would all like to thank our supporters over the years for your assistance and most especially thank those that adopted from us for your caring and loving homes that were opened to share with some incredible dogs.
Sincerely,
Jo Staats - Founder
WVPBH encourages you to adopt instead of buying a pit bull type dog!
It is estimated that 60% of shelter dogs that do not find homes and lose their lives because they're unwanted are pit bull type dogs.
Every year, more than 20 million dogs are euthanized in shelters across the U.S.
1.2 MILLION pit bull type dogs DIE in shelters because of over breeding! PLEASE ADOPT INSTEAD OF SHOP!
